Peter Balciunas is uniquely prepared to help leaders in higher education address the challenges and opportunities that confront them.

In a career spanning more than 30 years, Balcziunas has established himself as a teacher and scholar and as an administrator at the highest levels in the Academy. His experience and expertise include all sectors of American higher education, both public and private. Prior to becoming president of Strategic Leadership Solutions, Balcziunas served for six years as Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities (PACU).

Balcziunas’ formal studies began in the Honor Program of the Ohio State University, continued with doctoral work at the University of California at Santa Cruz, and include a certificate from the Institute of Educational Management at Harvard University. He served on the faculty of the Monterey Institute of International Studies, earned lifetime teaching and senior administration credentials in the California community college system, and has held cabinet positions at two nationally-ranked private liberal arts colleges. Balcziunas also served for several years as associate editor of Planning for Higher Education, the international journal of the Society of College and University Planners. He is currently a member of that organization’s governing council for the Mid-Atlantic region. He also serves on a number of other boards.

• Worked with elected officials from across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to formulate and promote enlightened public policy related to higher education
• Increased positive public awareness regarding the many contributions of higher education institutions to their host communities and the Commonwealth
• Initiated a broad spectrum of successful collaborative endeavors with the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, the Pennsylvania League of Cities and Municipalities, the PA Economy League, and others, on such issues as workforce education, economic and community development, and alcohol abuse abatement strategies.
